UIA carried white-fronted marmosets to Novosibirsk

17.10.2013

Wednesday, October 16, 2013, three white-fronted marmosets born in Torun Zoobotanical Garden, Poland, were transported on Ukraine International Airlines flight PS 802 from Warsaw to Kyiv, followed by another UIA flight PS 585 from Kyiv to Novosibirsk. Transportation of these animals was carried out under the UIA Professional Cargo Solutions program.

Professional transportation of animals, including wild and exotic, is a part of the freight portfolio of Ukraine International Airlines, which has long been cooperating with zoological nurseries around the world supporting their efforts to endangered species.

“Transportation of wild animals is a technically difficult and important assignment, requiring the airline’s special skills and experience: during the flight animals are influenced by climate change and suffer from serious stress, they need specific food and special care, – said Peter Kukharchuk, UIA Cargo Director. – UIA is the only airline in Ukraine, which has the experience in wild animals’ transportation and manages its own method of live baggage handling. UIA staff is certified by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and approach the tasks of providing exotic animals with the most comfortable flight conditions with a high degree of professionalism”.

“Over the UIA history of freight transportation we have carried a great many exotic passengers. Thus, over the last three years, sea lions, cheetahs, deer, tapirs, lions, monkeys, panthers, tigers, and even a rare African cheetah have repeatedly become UIA “passengers” – notedEvgeniya Satska, UIA Corporate Press Secretary. – The transportation was carried out in compliance with all international requirements. We are glad to help white-fronted marmosets reach their new place of residence in Novosibirsk Zoo”.
