UIA to re-schedule long-haul flights ad hoc
In the end of December Ukraine International is forced to temporarily pull the Boeing 777 UR-GOA aircraft out of operation. The need arose following a routine engine checkup and identification of fault that requires complete engine replacement. The precautionary measure was chosen after UIA had received the relevant confirmation from Pratt&Whitney, the engine manufacturer.
Unfortunately, amid the Christmas holidays, activities on engine replacement become complicated by several factors. First, such service is rendered in very few countries worldwide. Second, considering the engine weight and dimensions, it may be carried by specific cargo aircraft. Third, contracting requires extra time.
In this regard, UIA will redistribute aircraft on long-haul routes and make alterations to flight schedules. The airline will make every effort to operate flights on the UR-GOA routes.
Should any of the long-haul flights be re-scheduled, passengers will be informed as per the procedure.
“We realize the situation affects our passengers’ holiday plans and reckon upon their understanding. The safety of our clients and crew has always been and is our top priority. Moreover, precautionary measures are far more essential than the loss of time when technical aspects of aviation are at stake,” – noted Aleksandr Shafiev, UIA Technical Director.
UIA expects to conduct the Boeing 777 UR-GOA aircraft maintenance within the shortest possible timeframe.
