Fly Healthy –
new enhanced safety measures
Safety and health of our passengers and crew are the top priority for UIA
We are resuming flights in new conditions and introducing enhanced safety and sanitary measures to ensure that you feel totally confident and secure throughout your journey!
The UIA standards and procedures aimed at minimizing the risks of the spread of COVID-19 when providing services at the airport and on board are in line with the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO), the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), the Boeing Company, the Ministry of Health of Ukraine (MoH) and the State Aviation Administration of Ukraine (SAAU). UIA is constantly working to improve safety measures and service to make your air travel as safe and comfortable as possible.
As per guidance approved by the IATA, prior to operating its flights UIA carries out an individual assessment of risks taking into account the following data: confirmed cases of COVID-19 at the destination (location of the arrival airport); recommendations of authorized state bodies of Ukraine and the country of destination; number of passengers on a given flight; the duration of the flight. If the risk level is high, UIA will not fly.
Compliance with mandatory personal protection requirements at the airport and on board, as well as enhanced security measures implemented by UIA and operating airports will ensure maximum protection, safety and health of passengers and staff.
BEFORE YOUR JOURNEY
Please see below a set of mandatory requirements to comply with:
Passengers must keep a safe distance of 1.5-2 m during the airport formalities, when boarding / disembarking from the aircraft, as well as restrict movement in the aircraft cabin during the flight.
Passengers are advised to follow the principles and practices of personal hygiene, avoid touching the face, frequently wash their hands with soap and use antiseptics.
Passengers are strongly encouraged to check in online and use self-check-in kiosks to prevent overcrowding in the check-in area.
In order to prevent overcrowding, the access to the Airport Terminal will be temporarily restricted to accompanying persons. Access to the Terminal will be available only to passengers, airline staff and airport staff, as well as persons accompanying special categories of passengers (unaccompanied minors travelling alone, passengers with reduced mobility, etc.).
If before your trip you experience symptoms such as fever, dry cough, headache, shortness of breath, fatigue, you should cancel the trip, see a doctor and avoid contacts with other people. Passengers who present the airline with a certificate from a health care institution confirming the inability to fly, will be able to have their ticket reissued free of charge in the same booking class for other dates or get a full refund for their unused ticket.
When preparing for your trip, please check the entry requirements of your destination country and the terms of crossing the border, the need to be under observation or to self-isolate, the requirements to have a medical insurance or to present a health certificate showing a negative COVID-19 test result.
AT THE AIRPORT
The airports where UIA operates flights take sanitary and epidemiological safety measures to guarantee the maximum level of protection for passengers and employees:
All passengers, the airlines’ stuff and the airport personnel undergo mandatory temperature screenings and external health checks at the airport Terminal entry. People with fever and / or those who show symptoms of COVID-19 will be denied access to the Terminal.
All passengers, airline staff and airport staff permanently wear individual protective masks. There are protective partitions installed at check-in counters and gates. We provide staff members with additional protective equipment, which we also recommend to passengers: gloves, protective goggles or face shields and antiseptics
Passengers are strongly advised to keep a safe distance of 1.5-2 m at the check-in area, when going through the airport formalities, at the airport waiting areas and during boarding / disembarking from the aircraft, as well as when the collecting their baggage at the destination airport. Special markings, signs and announcements help passengers keep their distance.
In order to avoid overcrowding in the check-in area, we recommend that passengers check in for their flights online, use self-check-in kiosks at Boryspil Airport and baggage drop-off counters at other operating airports.
Antiseptic hand sanitizers are available throughout the airport to help passengers, crews and airport staff maintain personal hygiene. Personal protective equipment collection containers can be found in various areas of the airport.
Airport lounges and duty-free shops operate in compliance with all requirements for safety, sanitary norms and social distancing. Meals and drinks in business lounges are served using only individually packaged catering disposables. Drinking water comes in individual packaging. Passengers unpack all food and drinks personally.

Payments for goods and services are made only in a contactless way by card.
We recommend that passengers scan boarding passes at the gate themselves to minimize their contacts with surfaces and staff. There are two boarding lines at the gate ensuring a safe distance between passengers. To minimize the contacts, passengers will board the plane primarily by walking from the terminal gate to the aircraft or through a jetway. If passengers are taken to the aircraft by bus, boarding is carried out using the front and rear doors and two ladders.
All surfaces at the airport that passengers and their belongings come into contact with, get disinfected thoroughly and regularly.
Medical professionals stationed at airport healthcare facilities and centers are there to provide emergency medical care and help to passengers and staff at any time.
ON BOARD AN AIRCRAFT
The onboard environment is the most sterile and safe, given the high air quality and the configuration of the aircraft cabin. Due to the precautions taken by the airline and passengers, all flights are as secure as possible:
All passengers undergo mandatory external health checks when boarding their flight. Passengers who show symptoms of COVID-19 will be refused carriage.
Prior to operating any flight, all surfaces that passengers and their belongings come into contact with, get disinfected thoroughly. We carry out a regular deep cleaning and disinfection of the aircraft that takes about three hours. The disinfectants used are approved by the WHO, the SAAU as well as by aircraft manufacturers.
All UIA aircraft are equipped with highly efficient HEPA filters which capture and destroy 99,9% of micro-organisms such as viruses, bacteria and fungi with the diameter of 0,01 micrometers. Coronaviruses range in size from 0.08 to 0.16 micrometers, therefore they get effectively neutralized by HEPA filters. The system of vertical sectional air recirculation, passenger placement not "face to face" and the direction of airflow from the ceiling to the floor, which reduces the movement of air back and forth, prevent the spread of viruses in the cabin. Complete air renewal inside the cabin happens approximately every 2-3 minutes, about 20-30 times per hour, ensuring maximum cleanliness and high air quality.

Passengers and airline staff wear protective masks at all times. We also support our passengers’ initiative to use other personal protection equipment such as gloves, goggles or face shields. It is prohibited to leave used protective masks on seats and in the aircraft seat pockets.
The UIA employees constantly wear personal protective equipment as per the degree of risk of a given flight: protective masks or respirators without an exhalation valve, gloves, goggles and protective suits. The crew undergo mandatory temperature screenings and external health checks at the airport Terminal entry and before boarding. Cabin crew receive additional extensive health training, implement enhanced safety and sanitation precautions and are ready to provide assistance to passengers at any time.
Passengers are not allowed to change their seats after allocated seating.
Passengers are not allowed to cross the galley. For food and drinks preparation, we use only sealed individual catering packing from the manufacturer made on the automated capacities avoiding direct human contact. Meals are heated and served in a packaging which the cabin crew disinfect before serving to passengers. Drinks are served only in individually packaged catering disposables. Water comes in individual packaging. We do not serve unpackaged beverages, except for those that require hot water (tea, coffee). Passengers unpack all food and drinks personally.
Payments for Buy on Board and duty-free goods on board are cashless where it is possible. We disinfect the goods packaging before handing them over to passengers.
To ensure the safety of passengers and reduce contact with surfaces and the crew, the onboard services are temporarily limited.
Individually wrapped, single use in-flight magazines are offered to passengers and are available upon request (are not placed into the seat pockets on board the aircraft). An already used copies of magazines are utilized upon arrival of the aircraft at the airport.
We urge passengers to limit movement around the cabin once seated. Passengers are not allowed to crowd near the toilets.
To minimize the contacts with other passengers and staff, passengers will disembark mainly by walking from the aircraft to the terminal or through a jetway. If passengers are taken to the terminal by bus, they will disembark though the front and rear doors and two ladders.
